About Us
History of UTM
Emil Augenstein a 17 year old German immigrant arrived in America in1927. Employed by Westinghouse from 1927-1945 as a toolmaker. In 1945 Universal Tools & Manufacturing Co. (UTM) was founded by August Huber and Emil Augenstein. Mr. Huber retired in 1972 and Mr. Augenstein became sole owner of the company, and stayed active in the company as owner and company president until his death in 1982. At that time his daughter Dorothy assumed the reins of the company as well as her father's role as president. UTM remains in the family and is a woman-owned, ISO 9001: 2000 certified manufacturing business. In September 2009 UTM acquired the aluminum battery holder division from Acme Model Engineering Company diversifying itself to providing its first product. Together Dorothy along with her daughter Robin continue to look to the future while carrying on a proud history of exemplary service to world class customers that began in 1945.
UTM Today
Universal Tools & Manufacturing Company is located in Springfield, NJ and continues to meet the challenge of custom metal stamping and tool and die making. UTM continues to meet the demands of our customer's world wide. Many components manufactured by UTM are found in communication equipment, electrical equipment, medical equipment, vacuum tubes, guidance devises for missiles, surveillance cameras, radar displays in military aircraft, and in outer space technologies. These are only a few of the industries that UTM serves.
